About
The vision of the STAR center is to create a world class joint center for advanced research primarily in software technologies combining the engineering strengths of Samsung with the deep and varied research strengths of the College of Computing (COC). The center will first and foremost establish a permanent presence for Samsung Electronics on Georgia Tech campus in the new College of Computing building (Klaus Advanced Computing Building). It will provide Samsung access to the vibrant student population (graduate and undergraduate) both from the point of view of short-term (year-round internships) and long-term employment. The center will foster exchange of research personnel between Samsung and the college of computing. The mission of the center is to carry out cutting-edge research in areas of software technologies and to produce globally significant research results towards realizing digital convergence revolution.
The research projects will be fully funded by Samsung. The center will invite white papers from faculty and hold an annual workshop (the first workshop to be held in May, 2008) to select such research projects.
In addition to carrying out research of mutual interest, the center will organize short courses and thematic workshops on site in Samsung, S. Korea, aimed at skills training of Samsung engineers. Further, the center will organize summer institutes on chosen topics each year for Samsung engineers and host such summer institutes on the Georgia Tech campus.
