We conduct research in developing, understanding and advancing a new computer-based 3D animation production technique known as machinima. This a center for research in Atlanta with three overall research foci:
- Theory – analyze and test existing tools, formats, and production methods of machinima and develop the theoretical framework around this new technique.
- Practice – develop new tools for machinima production process and test them in our own productions.
- Networking – assemble a network of artists, academics, and interested industry partners.
As a interdisciplinary initiative the projects are usually collaborations between different groups, namely the Digital World and Image Group, the Synaesthetic Media Lab, and the Augmented Environments Laboratory.
