Fall Quarter Plan

  • Goals for Fall Quarter
    • Have 1-2 CS 1502 programs that selected students can run on Windows NT (client) and Solaris (server) to test the system
    • Train and communicate with CS 1502 TA's
    • Thoroughly Test VR Midtown/Java Interface
    • Research how other languages can be interfaced with into Virtual Midtown
    • Research how other classes can use Virtual Midtown in their curriculum

  • Tasks for Fall Quarter
    • Port client to Windows NT
    • Port server to Solaris
    • Train CS 1502 TAs on how to use VR Midtown with Java and determine whether problems are VR Midtown related or not
    • Stress test VR Midtown/Java interaction by simulating 50 students all logging into VR Midtown and trying to create new objects, etc.
    • Security test VR Midtown/Java interface and actually try to be the "hacker" that could possible gain too much access to VR Midtown.
    • Propose any computer hardware upgrades
    • Research how other languages (Smalltalk, C, C++, Lisp) can be added
    • Research how other classes (cs2430, cs2360, cs2390)
    • Research what additional models could be added to help the course curriculum

  • Goals for Next Quarter
    • Expand Virtual Midtown into other classes
    • Make system more robust
    • Add additional features to Virtual Midtown to better fit curriculum
