Here is an interesting bit of news from the Web:

some quotes:

Ailing Apple admits it will resort to layoffs

Details aren't set, but Apple CEO Gilbert Amelio said Thursday for the
first time that layoffs are definite. Apple hasn't decided how many or
where they will occur.

Amelio also said he is taking a close look at Newton, Apple's $1,000
handheld computer, which, after three years, has yet to turn a
profit. "Maybe we missed the boat," he said.

Whatever happens, Amelio said, Apple would continue to support current
Newton customers. Apple has licensed the Newton operating system to a
dozen other companies that make handheld computers. He remains
committed to the eMate, Apple's $800 portable for kids based on the
Newton.
