In case you didn't know about this, here is the latest on
a C++ alternative to NTK for developing on the Newton.

The other alternatives that I am aware of for NTK programming
are NS Basic, a development environment by a guy named Steve
Weyer (I don't know about this) and rumors that Squeak (a
Smalltalk variant) will be available soon.

Dear Newton Developers,

I wanted to get back to you regarding the promise (that I
made during the Newton Technology Conference) of having the
Newton C++ Toolkit available by the end of 1996. I am
sorry to say that I will not be able to fulfill my promise.
The engineering and software quality groups have worked
very hard to meet this deadline, and we were unable to meet
it. We continue to work hard on delivering this product, and
we will send you more information on availability by January
15th.

Regards,
Gabriel Acosta-Lopez
Senior Manager
Newton Support and SQA

P.S. The Desktop Integration Libraries for Windows, version
1.0.2 are now available for download from the Newton
Developer World website in the What's New area at
http://devworld.apple.com/dev/newtondev.shtml
