A View of the Amsterdam Harbor
Oil on canvas

Gift of the Walter and Frances B. Bunzl Foundation, 1991.300

The economic prosperity of Holland during the
seventeenth century resulted from its ability to
trade by sea. In this view of Amsterdam harbor,
the artist depicted a variety of sea-faring vessels
including well-armed trading ships that would
have served Holland's interests all over the world.
