American, born 1960

Double Negative, 1990
Dye diffusion prints, plastic

Purchase with funds from the National Endowment for
the Arts and Edith G. and Phillip A. Rhodes, 1990.64

The braided rings of hair in Double Negative
allude to racial identity and childhood. The
suggestion of innocence is undermined by the
resemblance of the loop to a noose - a reference
to lynchings and racial hatred.
