Doc to PDF

  • Windows 2000 machines should have Adobe Acrobat installed. Acrobat can be installed as a print driver allowing you to print any document in Windows to a PDF.
  • 1). Print the word document to a file using a postscript printer driver (e.g. calvin).
2). Use ps2pdf to convert the postscript file to a pdf file.

  • doc2pdf (http://doc2pdf.sf.net) looks like it will do what you want, but I have never used it.
Adobe also has a service at http://createpdf.adobe.com .
It looks like you can get 5 files done for free, if this is a one-time thing for you.

  • CoC has a site license for Acrobat Distiller. It is easy to use.
    1. Print your Word document to a postscript file (you may have to install a postscript printer driver to do this, but you don't have to have the printer to install the driver -- try one of the HP laserjet driverrs).
    2. Feed the postscript file to Distiller on the command line and it automatically generates the corresponding pdf.
You can find distiller in the following directory: /net/ac6/app/common/Acrobat3/bin/

  • Try using the "TOM server", available online at CMU. Its pretty good and theres no limit to how many times you can use it.
