Book Nook
The Book Nook is a great store. There's several (according to their
bags), but the only one I've ever been to is on Buford Highway where it
intersects Clairmont. The way I usually go is to get off 85 at North
Druid, go West on North Druid and then North on Buford, and it's on the
right around a mile up.
the book nook (previously at Clairmont and Buford highway) is closing,
or rather moving south (about 3 miles) to Clairmont and North Druid hills.
They also have a store in Marietta.
Atlanta Book Exchange
Directions
on North Highland just south of Virginia
(this guy's house is full of books!).
They also have another store:
just go down Highland to Ponce, cross the street and turn right, walk past
the movie theater, it's on the first little street. These are very close
to each other, very convenient! Two of my favorite bookstores.
Science Fiction and Mystery Bookstore
Directions
on Cheshire Bridge in the Cheshire Point shopping center near the really weird part of town.
Not half price or used, but you can find lots of obscure and imported books that never make
it to the domestic marker. And anyway, you should support your independent bookseller.
Kudzu Books
PeachTree Industrial, just inside the perimeter
They carry mostly remaindered books, as well as audio books, and some new books. All books are in like-new condition. Typical prices are $4-$8 for hardbacks, and ~$2.50 for paperbacks. It is a large bookstore, and if you find what you want it will be a good deal. Don't expect to find recent best-sellers, but rather best-sellers that are 2-3 years old.
Books-A-Million
Discover Mills (I-85 intersection with 120)
Chapter 11
Chapter 11 books, while having many locations and a promising sounding name,
only provides a 10-20% discount over cover price.

half.com even for technical books
(last thing I bought there was a general relativity reference book).
abebooks.com alibris.com.
Both of these are basically search engines for a large number of used bookstores
scattered across the country -- Sort of like pricewatch, but for books.
