Ashok K. Goel
is an Associate Professor in the College of Computing
and an Adjunct Professor in the School of Psychology. He received his
Ph.D. in Computer and Information Science from the
Ohio State University
in 1989. His research interests span artificial
intelligence and intelligent systems, cognitive science and
human-computer interaction, and knowledge-based design and design
education. His current work is developing computational theories of
evolutionary and creative design, adaptive and analogical design, and
meta-design and reflection-in-design. His work has received funding
from NSF, DARPA, ONR, Northern Telecom and NCR.
Goel has chaired the
IEEE SMC Technical Committee on AI since 1990, and was a Vice-Chair of
the Third and Fourth International Conferences on AI in Design in 1994
and 1996, respectively. He serves on the Editorial Board of the
International Journal of Design Computing, Goel was a
Lilly Teaching Fellow during 1992-93, and received both the
Georgia Tech Junior Faculty Teaching Excellence Award and
the College of Computing Baird Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award
in 1994.
