The Prince and Baron von Falz-Fein accompanied the team in a year marked by tragedy. Members of the skiing team that year included Franz Beck, Ewald Eberle, Poldi Schaedler, Theodor Sele, Hermann Kindle and Max vo Hohelohe. The bobsled team was made up of Moritz Heidegger and Weltin Wolfinger.

A week after the Olympiad, at the Swiss bobsled championships in St. Moritz, the bobsled team suffered a horrible accident. About 100 meters from the finish line, in the last curve, the Liechtenstein bobsled began to skid. The sled broke through the small snow wall, flipped two times, and came to a halt 40 meters from the finish line. Moritz Heidegger, who struck his head on one of the sled's runners, broke his skull, and despite all efforts, died the next morning. Moritz's brother had died four months earlier in a motorcycle accident. The accident meant the end of bobsledding in Liechtenstein for many years.

Liechtenstein did not participate in the Summer Games in Melbourne out of political reasons.
