Research Scientist I
Research
Distributed and Parallel Systems:
- Exploring and developing methods for interactive parallel
simulation in particular: steering, controlling,
and monitoring parallel simulations.
Results published
in PADS-98 and nominated for best paper.
- Latency hiding with optimistic simulations,
developed optimistic I/O, a new mechanism for
initiating computationally intensive calculations before
they are needed to provide glitch-free virtual
environments.
Results published at the
1999 International Conference on Virtual Worlds and Simulation.
- Efficient global virtual time computations.
Results published in the ACM journal:
Transactions on Modeling and Computer Simulation.
- Parallel pattern matching algorithms (string matching).
Results submitted for journal publication.
- Parallel real-time path planning for formations of robots (with
Tucker Balch). Results to appear in ICRA-2000.
- Developing a user interface for children to program robots in
simulated soccer for
RoboCup Junior
(with funding
provided by the RoboCup Federation). To be
demonstrated at IJCAI-2000.
Information Systems:
as a Research Scientist at GTRI contributed to the
HyperTech project.
HyperTech provides a graphical
hypertext interface to data stored in a standard,
commercial relational database system.
Provided the Treemap view an interface to view
hierarchical data; provided an interface for automatic
and intelligent path (link) generation; also implemented
and designed an effective database caching scheme.
