General information
This quarter, we will be concentrating on statistical
approaches to natural language. For a brief introduction to the
topic, check out the discussion in the latter half of the March
10 FCE Seminar from last quarter.
Topics and Papers
- April 9 & 16: HMMs: Chapter 6, Theory and Implementation of
Hidden Markov Models, in Fundamentals of Speech Recognition,
by Lawrence Rabiner and Biing-Hwang Juang.
- April 23: Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI)
(also known as Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA)).
This is an interesting numeric
technique to figure out what a document is about.
