I believe that there will be at least one paper coming
from FCE on this topic, by Anind and me on positioning and
intent in the contect of Cyberguide and CyberDesk.
Other possibilities include the Motorola voice only interaction
(Rob, Laura, Lara, Anind, Colin?).
There is a topic on ubiquitouis computing as well. Perhaps a paper
on Domisilica/CyberFridge is warranted...
Note the April 4 deadline.

INVITATION
The International Symposium on Wearable Computers (ISWC) is the first
annual conference on wearable computing. The conference is being held in
cooperation (pending) with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics
Engineers and the Association for Computing Machinery. The purpose of ISWC
is to bring together researchers, product vendors, research sponsors, and
others to share information and advances in wearable computing. The
conference will include presentations, exhibitions, and poster sessions.
We invite you to attend ISWC and to submit proposals for paper
presentations, exhibitions, and posters. The IEEE Computer Society Press
will publish the papers and poster summaries in a conference proceedings.
Selected papers will be included in a special issue of the IEEE "Personal
Technologies" journal. We will also publish all papers, exhibition
summaries, and poster summaries on the World Wide Web.
LOCATION
On October 13th and 14th, the conference will be held at the Marriott Hotel
in Cambridge, Massachusetts USA. On the day after the conference,
Wednesday, October 15th, the Media Laboratory at the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology invites attendees to participate in a gala event
that will help introduce the concept of wearable computing to a broader
audience. The MIT Media Laboratory is a short walk from the Marriott
Hotel. The conference sites are easy to reach by mass transit and are
convenient to hotels, restaurants, entertainment, and historic sites in
Cambridge and Boston. The colorful New England autumn leaves should be at
their most beautiful during the conference.
CONFERENCE TOPICS
The topics for ISWC may include:
o Applications, including affective computing, augmented
reality, computer-supported collaborative work,
computer-supported cooperative living, ubiquitous computing,
personal imaging, consumer applications, industrial
applications, medical applications, military applications,
and software agents
o Ergonomics
o Future of wearable computing
o Hardware, including head-mounted display technologies,
batteries, power management, heat dissipation techniques,
industrial design techniques, and manufacturing packaging issues
o Human interface issues, including hands-free user interfaces,
speech recognition, mobility-challenged users, user modeling,
user evaluations, and health issues
o Networks, including wireless networks, on-body networks, the
World Wide Web, and networked vs. standalone computers
o Operating system issues
o Social implications
o Software architectures
o Training, including performance support systems
PAPERS
We invite researchers to submit papers on the topics listed above or other
topics related to wearable computing. The authors of papers that are
selected for the conference will provide presentations during the
conference. To submit a paper, please do the following:
o Write a paper that discusses the research, innovation, or
advance made by the author. Emphasize the unique contribution of
the work and how it will benefit others. The paper should not
exceed 4,000 words (eight pages) in length. Include the
author names, affiliations, addresses, telephone numbers,
and electronic mail addresses. Also, identify the contact person
for the paper. A template for the paper is on the World Wide Web

EXHIBITIONS
We invite you to exhibit your products, services, or research projects
during the conference. Exhibitions will be available continuously in a

Exhibitors will pay a fee for their booths.
The number of exhibitors that are accepted for the conference will be
limited by available space. To apply to be an exhibitor, please do the
following:
o Write a summary of the product, service, or research project that
you hope to exhibit. Describe why it will interest the
conference attendees. The summary should not exceed 500 words
(one page) in length. Be sure to include in the summary
the exhibitor names, affiliations, addresses, telephone

location. Also, identify the contact person for the exhibition.
