At the risk of sounding like a sun-flunky, there in fact is a
"standard light weight network operating system out there which can
run something like Java." In point of fact, *no* I don't want my
cellular phone running Windows, I want it running Kona (JavaOS).
The JavaStation (http://www.sun.com) runs this operating system. Its
really small and is Java all the way down to the device drivers.
