For those who are on the GVU grad student list, you probably have
already seen my posting on being a CHI student volunteer. For those
who haven't seen it and don't care at all about the most important
HCI conference in the US, you can stop reading now. Faculty can stop
reading as well.

First, CHI'97 is going to be in Atlanta this year and with the theme
of "Looking to the Future", this is a GREAT opportunity for us to
make a statement about FCE work.

For those who are interested, there is a student volunteer program
that you can get involved in. Check out the conference Web page:

We are going to be hosting a workshop on ubiquitous computing on the
Sunday and Monday before the conference (March 23-24), right after
exams. There is also going to be a workshop on wearable computing.
Usually, students have a hard time getting into these workshops, because
they are reserved for more senior researchers who "know more" and "do less".
:) Anyway, since I am running the ubi workshop and I know the people
running the wearable workshop, if you become a student volunteer and indicate
that you would like to work the ubi or wearable workshops, you can
attend the workshop for free. The other interesting part of this is
that if we get our way, both workshops will be hosted here in the College
and the ubi workshop will be in the new Classroom using whatever C2000
technology we have available. A great opportunity to show our stuff to
important people and gather more data about how this kind of technology
can support collaborative meetings/lectures.

Anyway, if this is interesting to you, then by all means volunteer or
come talk to me about it.

Gregory
