I have been in touch with one of the managers for the project,
Jerry Pittinger, and he has agreed to give me (and a few other folks
who might be interested) a tour of the facilities. They are located at
the new Traffic Management Center on 935 E. Confederate Avenue. I
have scheduled a 1-hour tour at 1pm on June 17th. If anyone is interested,
let me know and we can go together.
Some interesting tidbits I found out over the phone. They are using
Motorola Envoys and HP 200LX units in the hands of pedestrian travelers
to provide guidance information. They had trouble using GPS, so they
were interested to see the outdoor Cyberguide prototype we've been
using. They are using 2-way paging and the ARDIS network for communication.
Should be fun. This is a start-up company that is coming to town mainly
for the Olympics but will be sticking around, so there may be an opportunity
for collaboration of some sort.
