Hey folks, after consulting with Chris and Gregory, I have decided to
broaden the scope of our discussion today, beyond the paper I originally
proposed last week.

We would like to shift the discussion to adaptive systems in general,
applied towards the design of applications in the domain of education
(but not necessarily limited to it, UI adaption could also be discussed).
So here is a short outline of how we could proceed today:

* Why Build Adaptive Systems?
- An overview of key issues (paper by Brown, Norman & Riches)

* How do we design Adaptive Systems?
- Taxanomy & Methodology (paper by Totterdell & Rautenbauch)

* Consideration of 2 Case Studies:
- Adaptive CAD system (paper on AIDA by Cote)
- Adaptive Note-taking System (Software Agents paper by Schlimmer & Hermens)

* Definition of Problem Domain: Education
- Note-taking and Review of Lectures (paper by Alison King)

* Design of Computational Support for this domain (free-form discussion)

Based on our study of adaptive systems we will consider design issues for
a suitable note-taking application(s) that could improve students tasks,
learning strategies & overall performance.

I will try to summarize the main issues in the papers quickly and hope to
generate useful discussions from you....

Nick
