Rich, in the future, just post these messages directly to cyberguide@cc.
Cyberguide teams (especially Shervin), you should find out all you
can about these competitors and put them in the Web notebook at the
right place.

Gregory,
I read yesterday about two other outdoor versions of Cyberguide in the public
sector. The first is a $400.00 package that includes GPS and a CD-rom with
maps for most major cities. The manufacturer is Delorme, and they have a
web-site at www.delorme.com. I saw this product in several adds as well as
someone's evaluation. The one criticism given was that information about
available restaurants and such were limited, much like the way AAA always
does.
The other contender is supposed to be released next year from Microsoft.
Evidently, they are going to be selling a combination PDA and service
called Cityscape that uses GPS. It is a context aware device that shows
you moving on a map and gives you information about restaurants and such.
The two things neither of them address is control over your map environment
and usability indoors.
By the way, I peaked into the new classroom and was impressed with what I saw.
