o Sponsor
Jason spoke with Kirk Pennywitt (kirk.pennywitt@gtri.gatech.edu)
about requirements on Tuesday (10-15-1996). The project has been
regeared towards a new long-term project
o TIGER database
The TIGER database is a public domain database compiled by the census
bureau, containing information about roads, buildings, terrain, etc.
It contains extensive data in two formats: ascii, and binary (depending
on which version is used). Road data is stored as vectors.
o Project Plan
Discussed the long-term and short-term plans for Cyberguide. Long
term plans included:
o Register current location
o Directional heading
o Scale
o Find path from source to destination
o Put source and destination on screen
o Find special places of interest
o Add special places of interest
o Maintain list of places visited
o Annotate digital pictures (if used with a digital camera)
o Access web and e-mail
o Create web-browsable travel diary
We will be taking a three-phased approach. The first phase will involve
implementation for a relatively small area (Georgia Tech area plus
local surroundings) to show proof of concept and to facilitate testing.
Later phases (for other quarters) will involve adding capability, scaling
upward, optimizing, and using a more portable platform (smaller than
Fujitsu platform).
