They are about to reorganize the GVU research Web pages and
put them under categories. Someone on the Cyberguide team
should contact John Stasko about this and make sure we know
what the project structure is going to be. It would be wise
to use this information structure when preparing the Cyberguide
Librarian services.

Folks,
In our redesign of the Web pages, one thing we need to look after as well is
the Research Areas under the Research home page. Right now we have
Animation
Virt Envs
Model, Imag, & Viz
Electr Info
Soft Viz
Sci Viz
UI Software
Multimedia
Educ Tech
Usability & Human Fact
FCE
Hypertext
CSCW
WWW User Surveys

This list needs some work. First, it's heavily CoC weighted. Second, there are
some areas that can be removed I think. Third, there are probably many other
areas to add.

Please send me suggestions for _Areas_. The critical word is Area, not project.
Most of the current ones fit this well. Suggesting an area requires a second
component: a person, fac or student, willing to maintain those pages (will
literally own the files) and make sure they are kept up-to-date. We've been
lax on this in the past. Further, the area should have a top page that includes
pointers to related faculty, projects, papers, etc. (The exact format is
flexible.)

Note that this is important. Individual projects are being pulled out of the
brochure which will only have refs to the areas now, and then a pointer to the
Web pages. So please give this some thought. It's going to be tricky for us
to find a good medium, not too many detailed areas or too few broad ones, so
some negotiation and tweaking will be needed.

Anyhow, please send me suggestions by the end of this week. We'll start gathering
it all together and making a plan then. Hopefully, this will coincide with the
public release of the new Web pages too.
