Progress:

MEETINGS --

Tue. 4/2: Cyberguide/Cybarguide Meeting.
RE: quarter strategy.
No prep.
Wed. 4/3: Cyberguide RWL Meeting.
RE: quarter strategy, roles & responsibilities.
Prep: Organized & ran meeting.
Fri. 4/5: Cyberguide Status Meeting w. G.A.
RE: preview of project plan.
(note: prep for this meeting was marked as
"project plan")

RESEARCH --

Tue. 4/9: Talked to Sue re: IR (Newton). Typed up notes.
(Exchanged email w/ Rich Bails - no time noted).

PROJECT PLAN --

Prepared rough ideas for for 4/5 meeting.
Read through old project plans and wrote Version 1.0
(To G.A. Mon. 4/8).

Problems :
-- IR: my lack of technical understanding of this may have caused
some problems for team members coming to me for advice,
hopefully it was straightened up by consultation with the
"technical consultant", Sue.

Plans :
-- Update project plan according to G.A.s suggestions
-- Update calender with this weeks status info
-- Check on status of web status-reporting device
-- *remind sue/mike about documenting llamatalk,
get clarification on this
-- (hopefully) sit in on some group meetings to get a feel for
where everyone is
-- re-do calendar so that it can hang in the OSL
-- if no-one else is doing it, find monitor prices so that
we can get the new santana monitor
-- contact spencer (ASAP) re: midterm presentation to secure room

TIME SPENT

> 7) Research, Newton

9 hours on learning NewtonScript, exploring what applications are stored on
Santana, learning about Soups, looking at the code for the previous
Cyberguides, and learning the generals about communications.

WHAT WAS ACCOMPLISHED THIS WEEK
o Relearned basics of NTK and NewtonScript
o Browsed thru the many sample files to understand what is there to use
o Browsed thru the previous version of Cyberguide to understand the basics
o Read about the basics of endpoint communications
o Reorganized the files on Santana

PLAN FOR NEXT WEEK
o Backup the files on Santana and the Windows machines in the OS Lab
o Learn more about endpoint communications, especially IR communication
o Try out communication between two Newton 120's using the built-in IR
transceivers using established protocols
o Try out communication between two Newton 120's using the built-in IR
transceivers sending "serial" or raw data
o Determine the maximum range of the Newton 120's (and maximum angles)
o If the transceiver can be setup on a UNIX box, then attempt communication
between a Newton 120 and the UNIX box

> 1) Hours spent on each activity

Meetings (with Prabath) 3 @ 2 hrs = 6 hrs.
Code, Basic-PC 2 hrs
Web 1 hr

> 2) Any problems you have encountered. This is important, as the
> people at the meetings will hopefully be helping you get solutions!

Difficulty in finding a PC with VisBasic, to examine previous
quarter's code.

> 3) Plans for next week.

Have the Delphi port of VisBasic serial code complete.

Rich Bails:

What I accomplished this week.

Sunday: Spent 6 hours reading through Newton manuals.
Thursday: Obtained hardware and documentation to build Sharp IR devices.
Spent 1 hour doing this.

What I will be accomplishing through next week:

Friday: Obtain additional equipment to build Sharp IR devices.
Saturday: Meet Jason Hong in open systems lab at noon to:
a. Assist in programming communications.
b. Meanwhile bring tools to build IR devices here.

Next week:

Spend as much time as I can in programming NewtonScript.
Also provide whatever support is necessary with hardware.

Prahbath :

1) Hours spent on each activity
- Progress reports <- about 20 minutes
- Meetings Attend <- 2 hours (Wednesday group meeting, Friday meeting)
- Research <- 2 hours , mostly reading Delphi book
- Code Basic - Pc <- 1 - 2 hours , I think something in between, writing
very simple apps in Delphi, i.e, buttons, windows
- Research <- 2 hours , met on Tuesday (Mike and I), examined old
delphi cyberguide, tryed to examine visual basic code,
spent time going over new communications ideas

2) Any problems you have encountered. This is important, as the
people at the meetings will hopefully be helping you get solutions!

- Need access to palmtop PC's, I will email Gregory about this.
- Wanted to see VisBasic Demo , emailed memebers of last quarters team
havent got a response so far
- Need access to Visual Basic, taken care of, most likely getting access
today.

3) Plans for next week.
- Thursday (today) -> Examine VisBasic code, begin porting
- Friday to Sunday -> Finish porting VisBasic Code, this should
be easy according to evryone, but we'll see.
- Monday to Wednesday -> Prepare Analysis doc, possibly finish porting
if not done, and begin working on communications
with Sharp transceivers

Thats about it, Id say we spent about 6 hours on research (learning delphi
mostly, since communiactions platform research seems moot, and basic
programming). We would have begun porting on Tuesday, but VisBasic is
not on the PC's, and I had a medical visit on Wednesday.

Activities

Progress Reports: 1
Meetings: 4
Document, Project Plan: 1

Progress:

MEETINGS --

Sun 4/7: Cyberguide Design Meeting. Chris and I spent 4 hrs.
going over high-level design issues & possible
functionality.

Tue 4/9: Cyberguide Project Meeting. No one mentioned that
it had been changed to friday.

Thu 4/11: Cyberguide Design Meeting.

Project Plan --

Spent ~1 hr. with Nancy proofreading, comments, etc. for
Project Plan

Problems :

Volume of mail on Cyberguide list is annoying. Most of it
goes unread. This is probably not good. Maybe we need a
cyberguide-general and cyberguide-announce, or better yet
a cyberguide list and a 431x list, so that the messages
can be filtered by source - as of now all of the CG mail is
being lumped together and going unread for a few days until
I sit down and read about a weeks worth...

Plans :
Continue Design Meetings - come up with initial design for
review by Gregory, Sue, others.
