ABSTRACT

This paper develops the theory for shadow formation and the theory for recovery of the shape of curved 3-D objects from single aerial images using shadows. We model curved 3-D objects as generalized cones and develop methods to obtain the generalized cone parameters of the object using the shadow. The paper then presents a preliminary implementation with experimental results and performance evaluation on real aerial images.
