Backplane System Architecture |
As shown in the preceding figure, the backplane supports insertion of multiple network simulator planes that together emulate the intermediate virtual network. In addition, live applications (e.g. Netscape) can be integrated into the execution via the Veil library that is designed to transparently capture and re-route network data from the live applications via the virtual network using the backplane.
The network simulators run in faster than (or, no slower than) real-time, executing on a cluster of one or more workstations. The applications themselves run in real-time, with either human or embedded system in the loop. The backplane is implemented using our high-performance runtime infrastructure package called Federated Simulations Development Kit - FDK .
