- "Maintenance" phases become subsequent cycles through the waterfall sequence
Spreading of risk
- Each cycle ends with a usable system
- Though the first may be a pre-production prototype
- Development can be stopped without the entire project being abandoned
- if version 1 is sufficient for users' needs
- Better visibility of progress, if early cycles are pre-production versions
Lack of control
- No rationale for starting a new version.
